Sean Creadick had 105 receiving yards during Saturday's Spring Game.
DAVIS, Calif. - Quarterback Greg Denham threw for 219 yards, Sean Creadick had nine catches for 105 yards and a score, and the UC Davis Blue beat the Gold 14-3 during the team's Spring Game before several hundred fans at Aggie Stadium on Saturday afternoon, bringing to a close spring drills for the UC Davis football team.
The game was a departure from the traditional controlled scrimmage that usually culminates spring practices. It was also an opportunity for the community to preview the 2010 Aggies in a game atmosphere.
Denham, entering his third season as starting quarterback for the Aggies, completed 20 of 26 passes including a long of 24 yards to Creadick. He was intercepted once, an impressive pick by cornerback Jonathan Perkins which he returned 44 yards.
Marquis Nicolis led the Blue's rushing attack with 41 yards on 12 carries, tight end Dean Rogers had six catches for 65 yards and Elon Wyatt caught three passes for 41. Joe Trombetta rushed for 34 yards on nine carries to pace the Gold's ground game while quarterback Austin Heyworth completed four of nine passes for 90 yards.
Defensively, linebacker Chad Davis had six stops for the Blue while linebackers Hunter Pahl and Kirk Skierski each had four. Transfer linebacker Jordan Glass had eight tackles - including five solo - for the Gold while linebacker Marshall Congdon and safety Patrick Shelton each had five. The Gold also recovered a fumble by Nicolis near the goalline, preventing a score.

Heyworth's 59-yard strike to Tom Hemmingsen set the Gold team up at the Blue's 12-yard line in the first quarter but the Blue's defense stiffened, stopping Trombetta twice from the one and later forcing a 19-yard field goal from Sean Kelley that made it 3-0.
Tight end Mike Cody, a transfer from Sierra College, put the Blue on the scoreboard with 1:54 left in the third quarter, catching a short four-yard touchdown pass from Denham to make it 7-3, ending a 91-yard drive. A two-yard TD pass from backup Sean Maraz to Creadick with 1:37 left in the game - and ultimately, the game's final play - made it 14-3.
Biggs saw plenty of room for improvement but also noted several noteworthy efforts. He said the game provided a good evaluation opportunity.
"It just kind of puts a stamp on the spring so we can see what kind of progress we've made (and) find out a little bit more about our players," said Biggs. "Who can play fast at the college level? Until you get into a game situation - in practice sometimes you can't always teall - and the game speeds up, that's a much better indication of who can play at this level and where we're at as a team."
The Aggies, who open the season on Sept. 4 at Cal, will return to practice in August.
